Reactor Vessel Transfer

In a reactor vessel transfer application‚ a pump can either be attached to the base of the reactor vessel or down stream of the vessel itself. The attachment to the reactor base is common and when so‚ the appropriate design considerations must be made. A typical batch process may involve a change in the characteristics of the product and components of the pumped material as the batch process progresses. Each type of pumped product requires a unique range of pressures and temperatures during batch processing to initiate the appropriate chemical reactions. The reactions typically require a pump that can circulate the product from the reactor vessel through the heat exchanger‚ and the back to the vessel. As such‚ the pump must be able to handle the full range of product and liquids used in the process.

Two screw pumps are common in this application as they provide users with extremely low NPSHr (Net Positive Suction Head required)‚ energy efficient operation as well as the flexibility to pump multiple liquids or products over extended viscosity ranges in one design. The Warren branded J – series is a good starting point. Two screw pumps are capable of handling up to 5‚000 gallons per minute‚ differential pressures that exceed 1‚000 psid‚ product temperatures up to 750F and product viscosities up to 1‚000‚000 cP.
